Confession: I am a book hoarder.
Not the scary kind, or the kind who has a room with books stacked to the ceiling–but the kind that hides them under my bed or takes them to work and hides them in a cabinet in hopes it becomes a “library” aka everyone please make good use of these so I don’t feel so guilty for buying them. I’m also a master at run-on sentences but that’s neither here nor there. I’m not sure why, but I always feel so guilty BUYING a book. It’s insane because when I think of it, I love them and want to keep them near at all times and it supports the author and your local bookstore (or amazon if you’re an impatient addict like me) so why not buy them?!
My latest reason (#NewYearNewMe yall) is because I never read them. There’s this pressure to finish library books in time for their due date. Pressure to pass on a good book to a friend. Pressure from social media to join the chat on #bookstagram. A duty, because I too am a successful book blogger who reads one book a day and it just so happens to be the day the book is released. JK on that last part-I’m still dealing with my bitterness I have to work a 9-5 instead of spending my days between the pages.
This January, in an effort to practice self control, manage my FOMO and attempt a budget, I am participating in #TheUnreadShelfProject2018 ..yes, that’s right, I’m not buying, borrowing or trading any books this month (other than Book Of The Month but that doesn’t count because I say so and stop trying to take my happiness!!) but instead, reading from my own shelf.
Currently, I have 37 books on my shelf that I haven’t read. For January, I am attempting to read 10 of them.. this feels very ambitious..but I am going to make a hard go at it!
Also, I wanted to show everyone my latest attempt at a #shelfie! This bookcase used to be a creamy mint green and I hated it..there was nothing in my house that matched and I was afraid to paint it (idk why??) ANYWAYS, this past weekend I was really productive and decided to go for it! I used the color paint in my kitchen and it made a huge difference! Also…I haven’t read any of these books except for the Sookie Stackhouse series in the bottom left (which I should really return to the person I borrowed those from–if you’re reading, please send me your address!!) so I have my work cut out for me during this Unread Shelf Challenge!
Let me know if you decided to participate along! I think it could be a great way to go back and see the books you were once so excited about, but got pushed back on the list because of the evergrowing TBR!
