The Royal We by Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan – Book Review

In honor of the Royal Wedding tomorrow, I’m sharing my thoughts on The Royal Weby Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan!
As you could probably guess by looking at the cover, this book is basically a fan-fiction of William and Kate through the characters Rebecca (AKA Bex) and Nick. Bex is from the U.S., studying abroad at Oxford, and just so happens to be going to school with, living near, and socializing with the prince. In other words, almost every studying abroad girl’s fantasy. However, as Bex gets to know the future king, she begins to fall for him and is thrust into a world where everyone watches your every step and appearances are everything.
My main issue with the story is that it was so.
LONG. The book was 454 pages, which for a superficial (read: mindlessly entertaining – in a good way) read was a bit long. In my opinion, it could have been shortened to 300-350 pages without being detrimental to the story as a whole.
I really did enjoy how the story was framed, with Bex recalling her relationship with Nick on the night before their wedding, often in comparison to “The Bexicon,” or unauthorized biography of Bex- spoiler alert: “The Bexicon” is completely full of it. At times, the stories were told out of order, but it felt organic. This could be partially because I was listening to the audiobook. The narrator did a fantastic job at making me feel as though she were telling me a story, full of side notes and personal touches, rather than listening to someone blandly read a transcript.
Overall, this was a lighthearted, entertaining read, especially for those that romanticize the life of the royals.ย  Get your own copy of The Royal We here.ย  Now, it’s time for me to figure out what one wears to watch a 7 am televised royal wedding… Don’t worry, Ramsey will be wearing his finest bow tie ๐Ÿ˜‰

Xx,

Kaylie
