Goodreads blurb:

When Angela met Jason Powell while catering a dinner party in East Hampton, she assumed their romance would be a short-lived fling, like so many relationships between locals and summer visitors. To her surprise, Jason, a brilliant economics professor at NYU, had other plans, and they married the following summer. For Angela, the marriage turned out to be a chance to reboot her life. She and her son were finally able to move out of her mother’s home to Manhattan, where no one knew about her tragic past.
Six years later, thanks to a bestselling book and a growing media career, Jason has become a cultural lightning rod, placing Angela near the spotlight she worked so carefully to avoid. When a college intern makes an accusation against Jason, and another woman, Kerry Lynch, comes forward with an even more troubling allegation, their perfect life begins to unravel. Jason insists he is innocent, and Angela believes him. But when Kerry disappears, Angela is forced to take a closer look at the man she married. And when she is asked to defend Jason in court, she realizes that her loyalty to her husband could unearth old secrets.

The Wifeis a domestic thriller with a legal twist,  and I can truly say that I was engulfed in the story from the start.  I’m talking, drop-everything, forego-sleep-because-I’m-not-a-quitter kind of sucked it.  Every tiny detail was meticulously crafted to create such a compelling story.  The characters were multi-dimensional, and I found myself curious about their histories (and how they impacted their present day decisions) as the story progressed.     Not only is her writing style captivating, her real life experiences as a prosecutor make the story even more believable.  Alafair did an exceptional job at including realistic details without bogging down the reader with pointless details.  I felt as though I stepped into an episode of SVU…or maybe even inside the local Distract Attorney’s office!

I could go on and on about how much I enjoyed this read, but I’m terrified if I continue that I’ll start giving spoilers and I can’t ruin the twists for you like that!  If you enjoy current event based legal thrillers, you will absolutely love The Wife.  This was my first read from Alafair Burke, but I can promise you it will most definitely NOT be the last.  Alafair…you have a new fan for life!  And I’m not just talking about Ramsey… img_9370even though he is way cuter!

Kaylie
