Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
I think we can all agree, any time a book has a dog character, its the best. But if the author is an evil person who enjoys emotional manipulation, and they decide to write in the dogs death….*gasp*…
Some of these we have read, and some we haven’t..either way, we’re here to protect you from making the same mistake we did. Unless you just like torturing yourself or need a good cry and well, these would do the trick.
So this cover is beautiful and I love a dachshund but as soon as I saw that this sweet baby dies, NOPE. NO THANKS.
Growing up, my family always had white and yellow labs for the family pet. They’re sweet, good-natured and will chew up anything that isn’t locked down. That said, I wanted to read this book but then with a simple Google search, it was placed back on the shelf, never to be picked up again.
I actually didn’t know this was a book until I heard about the movie..I still know nothing about it-other than the only thing that matters.
So this book isn’t based around a dogs life, which is a good thing SINCE IT DIES, but I read it not knowing this so SAVE YOURSELF AND STAY AWAY.
The last Nicholas Sparks book I ever read. What a jerk.
I was glutton for punishment, that’s my only explanation. I KNEW what was going to happen but I kept hearing all these amazing things (and I still gave it 4 stars on GoodReads) but crying on public transit isn’t cute so unless you’re into strangers trying to hug you, just don’t.
This novel sounds so interesting and yet…you just know what happens. It won a Newberry Medal so I’m guessing it’s an incredible story. But I can’t.
Again, knew about the movie before the book and watched and hated it (for many reasons) but yeah, you can’t do that to me, Will.
I read this as a child…and it ruined me. I still think of it as the single most depressing ending to a book. I ugly cried so bad that I probably developed wrinkles as a 5th grader.
